Go, Regal Encore!

Many thanks to Perrott parents, Anthony and Rachael, from Anthony Honeyball Racing, for a thoroughly enjoyable morning at the gallops. It was so exciting for our children (and parents!) to see Regal Encore put through his paces ahead of Saturday’s Grand National. Wishing you all the very best of luck.

Passiontide Service

Many thanks to Reverend Jonathan Morris for a wonderful Passiontide Service at St Martin’s Church on Friday. It was a pleasure to see the children come together in such a beautiful church (not to mention the camaraderie on the walk down the lane!). Very well done to all our pupils who took part in the service, from the readers to the choir members to the instrumentalists. What a wonderful way to end a busy and successful term.

Mother’s Day Art Competition

Our Year 1 children loved visited local florist, Twigs & Twine, in Crewkerne recently to see their artwork on display in the window. All our Pre-Prep children took part in their Mother’s Day Art Competition, with around 50 pieces of art on display. Very well done to Renée in Reception, who was the overall winner and to runners-up Oliver, Eliza and Jemima – and many thanks to Laura and Ella at Twigs & Twine for being such a source of inspiration for our children.

1st Netball Team

Our 1st Netball team played their last match of the season this afternoon and impressed us all with their movement around the court, shooting technique and indefatigable team spirit. The girls have worked hard as a team this term, getting better with each match and we’ve seen an incredible amount of individual improvement, too. Well done girls, you should feel very proud of yourselves – and thanks to our friends at Blundell’s for a top afternoon of netball.

Easter Activity Weekend

Children in Years 3 to 6 joined the boarding houses for some Easter fun last weekend – and judging by the noise and laughter, a great time was had by all! As well as games in the Sports Hall, a sleep over with their friends and a full English for breakfast, the children enjoyed decorating their Easter bonnets and having an Easter egg hunt around the grounds. Big thanks to our wonderful boarding staff for a brilliant activity weekend.

Spring Concert

The Spring Concert was an absolute triumph, with incredible performances from our junior and senior choirs, Year 8 singers, orchestra, wind band and soloists (not forgetting our Year 2 violinists, who performed in the rehearsal). Many thanks to our fabulous music teachers and peripatetic team and to the mastermind behind it all – our wonderful Director of Music, Mr Shortman. Finally, big thanks to Old Perrott Hillian, Tom, for stepping in at the last minute from Sherborne School after our saxophonist was injured. Team Perrott all the way!

Paper Crane Art Project

Following his recent trip to the Children’s Peace Monument (or ‘Tower of a Thousand Cranes’ as it is sometimes known) in Hiroshima, Year 8 pupil and Head Boy, Stanley, has been working on his own paper crane installation in the art studio. “I was really inspired by my visit to the monument,” he says. “It was built to commemorate a young girl called Sadako Sasaki who died of leukemia ten years after the atomic bombing. She believed that folding paper cranes would help her recover and they have since become a symbol of peace in many countries around the world.” Stanley plans to send a selection of his paper cranes to be displayed at the monument, while the others will be used in his installation to promote peace. What a brilliant and powerful idea, Stanley; we are very proud of you.

Year 6 Geography Trip

Our Year 6 geographers braved the wind and the rain on their field trip to carry out data collection on the River Axe last week. As well as investigating river processes at work they measured the depth, width and speed of the river from its source in Cheddington to its mouth in Seaton. Many thanks to Mr Coverdale, Mr Ringelberg and Mrs Byrne for a thoroughly enjoyable day of learning.

Prefects’ Tea

Our Heads of School came together for Prefects’ Tea in the Headmaster’s Study recently, where they discussed everything from their roles at Perrott to their ambitions at their next schools. Prefects are appointed in Year 8 as recognition of their personal qualities and efforts and it’s their job to set the tone through their conduct and behaviour. We are extremely proud of the way this group of senior pupils have provided leadership through example and encouragement this term; our younger children are fortunate to have such strong role models to look up to. Well done, team.

House Poetry

Last Friday saw our annual House Poetry Recitations and, from the Year 4 children opening the show with French poem ‘J’aime Papa J’aime Maman’ to the incredible house and individual performances from Pre-Prep all the way up to Year 8, we didn’t want to it end. Very well done to all the winners and to Blackdowns, who were victorious with their excellent rendition of ‘Goldilocks’ by Roald Dahl. The biggest thanks to our judges from Blundell’s and to our Head of English and brilliant house staff for their encouragement and inspiration.
