The boarders enjoyed a great monster ‘bake off’ this weekend with Miss White, Mr Sheldon and the rest of the boarding staff. The finished cakes went down well, too!
Year 5 enjoyed a fascinating history trip to Hooke Court yesterday, where they took part in a range of hands-on activities, including Tudor cooking, scribing and dressing up in Elizabethan finery.
It was great see our Year 3 and 4 pupils enjoying some cricket last week with our Level 2 cricket coach, Mr Bunday. He says: “The fundamental point of coaching children of this age is to instil a long-lasting love of sport, and it’s great to see our U8s and U9s having fun whilst developing skills to improve their overall game.”
Well done to Henry and Rose, who are worthy winners of Mrs Palmer’s ‘golden paintbrush’ award for their work on mixed media dragon designs. As a reward, their pieces of work will be framed and proudly displayed in the art room.
Our Pre-Prep children have been having great fun in Forest School. As well as making wild garlic bread and building dens, Years 1 and 2 also made cars using a bill hook (and their sawing and whittling skills) and continued to sculpt their willow deer under the watchful eye of Mrs Palmer.
Due to popular demand, we’ve added an extra music class for 0-3 year olds on Mondays – meaning we currently have spaces available for the 8.30am class and the 9.45am class. The classes are Colourstrings/Kodaly based music classes run by one of our incredible music teachers, Miss Greenwood, and are great for early child development and language skills – and for boosting confidence and independence. Each class lasts for 45 minutes, followed by a stay and play with refreshments. Please email admissions@perrotthill.com to book.
We are holding a Year 4 Taster Day on Saturday 28th April, for children currently in Year 4 who want to explore Perrott Hill as an option for September. Please email admissions@perrotthill.com for further information and booking.
Well done to Freddie, who became the first ‘Star of the Week’ in Year 4 this week in a new initiative introduced by Mr Hannell. The class pick a name out of a hat and then each class member writes a positive comment about that pupil as a way of celebrating their unique qualities and talents. Freddie has been described as having ‘a great smile’, being ‘a brilliant side-stepper in rugby’ and being ‘amazing at art because he is creative’. Lovely praise and well-deserved, Freddie.
Pupils in Years 3-8 have been studying the work of local artist Paul Corfield – and we were blown away by the incredible artwork they produced over the Easter holidays. Says Paul: “I remember as a young child that I used to love working on school projects, but I never imagined that one day I may be the subject. Tell the children that they have done a wonderful job and that I was genuinely moved by the work that they have produced.” High praise indeed! Well done to all the children involved.
Well done to Old Perrott Hillian Tom, who has been selected to play rugby for the Somerset U15s. Our Director of Sport, Simon Sheldon, has had a lovely email from Tom’s dad, who says: “When Tom arrived at Perrott Hill he had no idea how to play rugby and wasn’t at all interested in it. But thanks to you, he now loves it – and he cites you as the person who taught him how to play.” What lovely news to share. We look forward to watching your continued development at King’s Taunton, Tom.
