MP Adam Dance Visits Perrott Hill

Pupils at Perrott Hill enjoyed a fascinating visit from local MP Adam Dance this week, who spent time with children across the school discussing his role both in Parliament and within the local constituency.

Years 3, 4 and 5 gathered to hear about the day-to-day work of an MP, from representing local residents and responding to constituency concerns to contributing to debates and legislation in the House of Commons. The session quickly became an engaging question-and-answer discussion, with pupils asking thoughtful and wide-ranging questions on topics including potholes, inheritance tax for farmers, hereditary peers and the challenges of political debate.

Year 6 pupils, who are currently preparing for their much-anticipated Mock Trials next week, were particularly interested in exploring issues relating to law, government and public policy. They also took the opportunity to discuss environmental matters with Mr Dance, including fly-tipping and the importance of protecting the local environment.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to gain a greater understanding of democracy, public service and the role elected representatives play in shaping both local and national life. We are very grateful to Mr Dance for taking the time to visit Perrott Hill and for engaging so enthusiastically with the children’s many excellent questions.
